New models - Renault - TraficRenault Trafic van gets 2026 updateEfficiency and towing upgrades headline pricier, auto-only MY26 Renault Trafic van23 Feb 2026 THE Renault Trafic mid-size van has received a round of technical upgrades for the 2026 model year – due in Australian showrooms this month – that deliver improved fuel economy, lower emissions, a new nine-speed automatic transmission, increased towing capacity and adaptive cruise control on higher-grade variants.
Prices have risen across the board by $1500 to $2500, depending on variant, with the MY26 range starting at $52,990 before on-road costs for the short-wheelbase Pro.
The update follows the delivery of the 20,000th Renault Trafic since the nameplate was introduced in Australia in 2004 and carries over safety upgrades introduced last year that earned the Trafic a Gold Star Commercial Van rating from ANCAP.
Fuel efficiency has improved for MY26, with a claimed consumption of 6.2L/100km on the ADR test cycle – an improvement of 0.3L/100km over the outgoing model.
The 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel – updated to meet Euro 6 emissions standards – retains its 125kW/380Nm outputs and 80-litre fuel tank but the sole transmission option becomes a nine-speed automatic, replacing the six-speed dual-clutch unit while the six-speed manual option has not been carried over.
As a result – along with the discontinuation of the Crew Pro model – the MY26 Trafic range comprises five variants, down from the previous eight.
Towing capacity has been substantially upgraded, with the entire range now rated at 2500kg, an increase of 820kg for the short-wheelbase and 870kg for the long-wheelbase over their respective pre-update automatic counterparts.
Standard equipment on the entry-level Pro includes an 8.0-inch infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 4.2-inch digital instrument cluster, 16-inch steel wheels, LED reflector-style headlights with automatic high beam, and – on the van variants – a factory-fitted steel bulkhead with a glazed window and a fold-down middle seat workstation with a document holder and hidden laptop compartment.
Safety kit across the range includes autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, a driver attention monitor with drowsiness alert, a QR rescue code on the windscreen that gives first responders quick access to the vehicle’s structural and technical information in the event of a crash, and an ADAS button in the infotainment system that provides easy access to driver-assistance systems including a customisable “perso” favourites mode.
The Premium variants add a 7.0-inch digital instrument cluster, LED interior lighting, painted tail-light columns, a half-painted rear bumper and adaptive cruise control.
Premium level also gains hidden storage beneath the left passenger seat, which can be used to stow valuables such as a laptop or tool bag, or to accommodate extra-long building materials.
Renault says that with the under-seat storage in use, Premium variants can carry lengths of timber, conduit or PVC pipe measuring 2.9 metres in the short-wheelbase and 3.3 metres in the long-wheelbase with the passenger seat still occupied. With the seat unoccupied and a metal divider opened, these figures extend to 3.5 metres and 3.9 metres respectively.
The range-topping Crew Lifestyle model adds under-seat storage for three additional rear seats, a fully painted rear bumper and painted side body mouldings. It also gains adaptive cruise control as standard.
Optional extras for the Pro variant include an unglazed right-side sliding door ($800), glazed rear barn doors ($400) and 17-inch alloy wheels ($1000).
A Trade Pack ($2000) adds an anti-slip wooden floor, full-height cargo-area wall lining, heavy-duty battery, anti-theft spare-wheel basket and LED ceiling lights.
The Peace of Mind Pack ($1200) brings front and side parking sensors, blind-spot monitoring, traffic sign recognition and power-folding door mirrors, while a Comfort Pack ($1200 for vans, $1000 for crew) adds front fog lights, tyre pressure monitoring, rain-sensing wipers, keyless entry with push-button start and auto-dimming rearview mirror.
Premium buyers can opt for a Business Pack ($2200) that bundles climate control air-conditioning, factory-tinted rear windows, 17-inch alloy wheels, heated driver’s seat, embedded navigation, overspeed prevention, painted door-mirror scalps, painted body-side mouldings and a fully painted rear bumper.
The MY26 Trafic is available in up to six exterior paint colours. Glacier White is a no-cost option, Urban Grey is $400 and metallic finishes – Jet Black, Comet Grey, Highland Grey and Carmin Red – are $800 each.
Aftersales packages remain unchanged for 2026, comprising a five-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty and five years of 24/7 roadside assist. Service intervals stay at 30,000km or 12 months (whichever comes first) and a five-year/150,000km assured-price servicing program is also available.
Renault Australia general manager Glen Sealey said the timing of the update – ahead of the traditionally strong end-of-financial-year period – was deliberate.
“June is historically the biggest month of the year for commercial vehicle sales and, demonstrating our commitment to the Australian market, we have introduced a number of changes to the MY26 Renault Trafic line-up,” he said.
“With long driving range and long service intervals, the MY26 Renault Trafic is a compelling proposition for businesses that need to keep moving.”
Mr Sealey added: “The MY26 Renault Trafic delivers less downtime in an industry when time is money. If a van is your tool of trade, we say the Renault Trafic is your best business partner.”
