Jaecoo adds hybrid option to J5 range

Entry-level hybrid SUV priced from $34,990 driveaway ahead of August showroom arrival

16 Jul 2026

JAECOO Australia has expanded its J5 small SUV line-up with the addition of a conventional hybrid variant, offering buyers an electrified alternative to the existing petrol and battery-electric models from $34,990 driveaway.

Rivals include the Chery Tiggo 4 Urban Hybrid (from $29,990 d/a), GWM Haval Jolion Hybrid (from $32,990 d/a), and the MG ZS Excite Hybrid (from $30,888 d/a).

Due in Australian showrooms this August, the J5 Summit Hybrid becomes the third powertrain option in the range and is aimed at customers seeking improved fuel efficiency without the need to plug in.

Unlike the larger J7 and J8 Super Hybrid System (SHS) models, which employ plug-in hybrid technology, the J5 uses a series-parallel hybrid system that combines a turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with an electric motor and dedicated hybrid transmission.

The powertrain outputs 105kW and 215Nm with a permanent magnet synchronous electric motor delivering 150kW and 310Nm. Combined system outputs are quoted at 165kW and 295Nm, with drive sent exclusively to the front wheels.

Jaecoo says the J5 Hybrid consumes 5.6 litres of fuel per 100 kilometres on the combined cycle while emitting 126g/km of CO2.

Externally, the hybrid shares its styling with the petrol-powered J5, distinguished primarily by a set of model specific 18-inch Aero alloy wheels.

Inside, the Summit Hybrid is equipped with an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster and a 13.2-inch central infotainment touchscreen offering wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. The system also incorporates Jaecoo’s ‘Hello Jaecoo’ intelligent voice assistant.

Other standard equipment includes a panoramic fixed glass roof, 50W wireless smartphone charging, selectable ambient lighting, acoustic front door glass, heated and ventilated front seats, a powered tailgate, and a 360-degree surround-view camera.

Jaecoo continues to emphasise the J5’s pet-friendly credentials, with silicone-based synthetic leather upholstery said to offer antibacterial properties, increased durability and improved resistance to wear while also being easier to clean than conventional materials.

Safety equipment includes seven airbags and a comprehensive suite of advanced driver assistance technologies as standard, including autonomous emergency braking, forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control, and emergency lane keeping assistance.

The J5 Hybrid is covered by Jaecoo Australia’s eight-year/unlimited-kilometre vehicle warranty, matched by an eight-year/unlimited-kilometre battery warranty.

Ownership benefits also include eight years of capped-price servicing and up to eight years of roadside assistance.

The addition of the J5 Hybrid broadens Jaecoo’s electrified offering in Australia as the Chinese challenger brand continues to expand its local line-up, providing customers with petrol, hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and battery-electric powertrain choices across its growing SUV portfolio.
