New models - Genesis - GV80 - BlackGenesis updates more affordable GV80 rangeGenesis updates GV80 with cheaper base spec and ominous Black range-topper14 Nov 2025 LUXURY Hyundai sub-brand Genesis has updated the GV80 lineup for 2026, now available for order in Australia, reintroducing a more affordable 2.5-litre variant as well as new ‘Black’ range toppers.
Genesis has moved to the Signature naming convention, in standard and Black trim grades, with the option of SUV or Coupe body styles, somewhat simplifying the line-up but adding additional models in the process.
The move to bring back the turbocharged 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine for the SUV body style, which sits below the higher-grade turbocharged 3.5-litre petrol V6, brings the entry price of the GV80 down to $120,000 (plus on-road costs).
This is around $10,000 cheaper than the current entry price, but pricing across the board is up with 3.5-litre models hiked by as much as $2000, and the Black trim grades also add around a $5000 premium.
The Black models, across both the SUV and coupe body styles, get all the trimmings in, you guessed it, a black finish, priced from $136,000 in SUV form and $141,500 for the coupe.
This includes 22-inch wheels, G-matrix grille, tinted badging, and dark trim dyed using recycled carbon black from waste tyres, amounting to what Genesis calls “a bold expression of aesthetic purity”.
In terms of actual updates, the new range brings only subtle improvements, the biggest of which being the introduction of the brand’s Digital Key technology.
The Digital Key 2.0 system is essentially a wireless key that allows owners to unlock the front and rear doors, as well as start the engine, using their smartphone or smartwatch.
All models remain seven-seaters, but the 3.5-litre Signature AWD specification is also available as a six-seater, presumably offering a more spacious layout, but the optional rear seat entertainment package has been canned.
As far as what’s under the bonnet, the 3.5-litre V6 still produces 279kW/530Nm, while the smaller 2.5-litre four-pot punches out 224kW/422Nm, with both engines mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission that sends power to all four wheels.
“The exclusive 2026 GV80 Black and GV80 Coupe Black represent the purest expression of the Genesis Athletic Elegance design philosophy,” said head of Genesis Motors Australia Justin Douglass.
“With new technologies, a refined chassis, and a choice of two superb powertrains, 2026 GV80 is truly crafted for every customer.”
