Peugeot updates 308 for 2026

Mild style and tech tweaks for MY26 Peugeot 308 hatch and wagon, here in H1 next year

PEUGEOT has launched a revised 308 small hatchback and wagon in Europe for the 2026 model year ahead of its arrival in Australia during the first half, with changes wrought to styling and powertrains plus a tech lift including upgraded connected services. 
 
With the outgoing four variant range listing Down Under from $43,990 excluding on road costs, the French car competes here against upmarket small passenger cars such as Audi’s A3, Honda Civic, Mercedes-Benz A-Class, VW Golf, Subaru WRX and numerous others. 
 
Year to date VFACTS sales figures (to end of July) show the 308 at just 57 examples sold against small-segment leader Toyota Corolla at 11,322 units with the Hyundai i30 and Mazda 3 at 6472 and 6443 respectively. 
 
The new European line-up of 308 hatch and SW (wagon) variants includes the 100 per cent electric E-308 model that offers a claimed 450km range but is unconfirmed for Australia. 
 
Australia's existing 308 line-up comprises petrol, mild hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains in different denominations of hatch and one wagon. 
 
Peugeot says it has refined all powertrains for MY26, making them more efficient in the process but is placing more emphasis on the “French flair” of the new-look model – in particular the grille, bumper,  ‘three claw’ front light signature and illuminated Peugeot badge to bring the overall look more in line with Peugeot’s larger 5008 SUV. 
 
New wheels make an appearance for MY26 including diamond-cut alloys in 17-inch and 18-inch sizes on some models along with “impactful” new colours including hero hue Lagoa Blue.  
 
In Euro spec, the new 308 arrives with four powertrain options – electric, plug-in hybrid, hybrid and diesel – across five trims: Style, Allure, GT and GT exclusive, as well as a fleet-focused Business version. At this stage, it is not known what models will make it to these shores.  
  
Refinements inside mirror external tweaks in magnitude with clean lines that “seamlessly integrate the instrument cluster a 10-inch central touchscreen and the main controls”. 
 
Peugeot says the 308’s dashboard layout is “designed to free up maximum space for the benefit of the front passengers”. 
 
“High-quality materials, such as genuine aluminium and Alcantara further enhance the feeling of comfort.” 
 
The driver’s digital cluster has new graphics while five ‘i-toggles’ are used to provide shortcuts to features such as ambient lighting, air-conditioning, phone contacts, radio station and navigation. 
 
Other changes have been made to suspension calibration and driving position. 
 
In terms of powertrain options, the E-308's single 115kW/270Nm front motor is fed by a 55.4kWh battery pack for a a claimed 450km (WLTP combined cycle) range, 34km more than before courtesy of what Peugeot says is meticulous work on efficiency. 
 
A three-phase onboard charger comes as standard, delivering up to 11kW from an AC outlet. From a 100kW DC public charging station, it is claimed to charge from 20 per cent to 80 per cent in 32 minutes. 
 
The second-generation PHEV continues with a 110kW turbo-petrol engine and 92kW electric motor for a combined power of 143kW driving the front wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. 
 
Its 17.2kWh battery pack provides 20km more range than previously, now up to 85km with the engine off (WLTP combined cycle) and can be recharged in just over two hours using a 7.4kW AC charger or 7.25 hours using a standard power outlet. 
 
The base model mild hybrid retains a 96kW 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine driving the front wheels via a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission to attain a claimed 4.5-5.0 litres per 100km combined fuel consumption on the hatch. 
 
Boosting sustainability, Peugeot says it has been able to integrate more than 30 per cent recycled and renewable materials in the new 308 with more than 30 polymer components, such as the dashboard, made from hemp fibre along with recycled plastics used in bumpers and storage compartments. 
 
The model is designed in France and produced at Peugeot’s Mulhouse plant in that country.
