Future models - Nissan - NavaraNissan delays Navara to bring full line-upGetting the right model mix at the right time imperative to success of Navara: Nissan8 Sep 2025 By MATT BROGAN NISSAN has intentionally delayed the arrival of the fourth-generation Navara to ensure Australian customers have access to the entire model line-up from the get-go.
While the decision may seem counterintuitive – keeping the current model in showrooms well into its eleventh year on sale – Nissan Oceania managing director Andrew Humberstone told GoAuto the delay will serve to benefit Navara buyers by eliminating compromise from the equation.
“We have already (delayed the arrival of Navara). Now, I am putting pressure – quite a lot of pressure – on pricing, on quality, on specification, on the number of derivatives or variants we can have, and so on,” he explained.
“For me, it’s about making sure that we bring in the right product, at the right time, at the right price, and not simply saying to our customers: here’s the product, take it.”
With Australian buyers drawn to higher-grade variants of new models at launch, the decision is one that appears to make a great deal of sense.
Launching with only low- or mid-tier variants would place the importer at a disadvantage against rival models with a fully-fledged line-up.
Mr Humberstone said that while Nissan Australia was offered a stepped delivery schedule for the new Navara, it was decided that such an approach would disadvantage Navara loyalists and potentially impact sales in the shorter term.
“As is the case for any manufacturer, there is an end of production of the outgoing model, and the start of production for the new one. That can create gaps that mean we are offered a variant that is in the low- or mid-segment, and that we might have to wait for the remainder,” he told GoAuto.
“I would rather wait. I would rather lose six months and then have the right allocation, even if that means extending or elongating current production.
“We don’t want to be in a position where we have a shortage of those variants our customers want.
“The upside here is that we meet our customers’ expectations when we launch – and we will launch with the right product.”
While Mr Humberstone was reluctant to offer an insight into specification and timing for the new Navara range, he said the line-up would “definitely be in showrooms next year”, meaning it could coincide with the arrival of the new-generation Toyota HiLux, giving Australian light commercial vehicle buyers a significant number of options to consider.
Nissan Australia has yet to confirm Navara specification, GoAuto understands the Thai-built model will be based on the current-generation Mitsubishi Triton, offering a two-speed transfer case, high ground clearance, and familiar payload and towing capacities.
While it is understood the range will likely offer some form of hybridisation, it is likely that turbo-diesel engines will perform the ‘heavy lifting’ where the bulk of Navara sales are concerned, the Navara expected to offer a Mitsubishi-sourced twin-turbocharged 2.4-litre four-cylinder engine, at least initially.
The Navara is expected to ride on the same coil front / leaf rear suspension arrangement as the Mitsubishi Triton and offer similar body styles, meaning single-, space-, and dual-cab variants will be made available. ![]() Read more8th of September 2025 ![]() Nissan Qashqai to go hybrid-onlye-Power only for Nissan Qashqai as importer works towards greener line-up8th of September 2025 ![]() Nissan reminds customers of 10-year warrantyLimited time remains for eligible Nissan customers to unlock 10-year/300,000km warrantyAll future models![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Navara pricing
