Delhi Show: Honda reveals Vision XS-1 concept

DELHI is fast becoming the hottest venue for concept SUVs, with Honda the latest car-maker to choose India’s premier motorshow as the platform for fresh metal in the guise of its Vision XS-1 seven-seater.

Renault, Volkswagen and Chevrolet have already unveiled new high-riding show vehicles in Delhi to demonstrate their commitment to the emerging Indian market, and now Honda is following suit with its large people-moving concept.

The two-tone concept continues Honda’s M/M (or man-maximum/machine minimum) philosophy that has been implemented in previous vehicles such as the recent one-plus-one MC-B.

All five front seats are easily accessed through two large sliding doors, while third-row passengers jump in via a more conventional tilting seat arrangement.

The concept also represents a continuation of their long-held “Exciting H Design” and the Japanese maker describes the XS-1 concept as “realising both sportiness and versatile space at the same time”.

While Honda says there are currently no plans to put the XS-1 in to production, forthcoming models may borrow features that filter down from the show-car.

High-riding SUVs and crossovers are hot-property on India’s inconsistent road-surfaces, and this is likely the reason so many of the worlds manufacturers have chosen Delhi as the place to launch their pot-hole hopping offerings.
